Today I bade goodbye to my best friend

Skagit Fair 011_edited

Cactus*Point Jesse’s Girl 1*M

Over the last 5 years I have had one goat that stood out above the rest in terms of her endearment to me.

She came to me as a 4 year old doe who had just had Twins. A mottled black doe with the eyes of an angel and the face of happiness. Jesse quickly wormed her way into my heart and my show string as my Fit and Show doe.

We spent many a long hours working on show routines and just hanging out in the pasture, her being convinced that she’d given birth to me and that she must guard me from all other ‘usurpers’.

A few years ago I retired Jesse from having kids after two particularly traumatic kiddings back to back. She’s since just hung out with the herd being a pasture ornament and teacher to the younger ladies who have graced my herd.

Always a calm and reasonable doe, she was first one to the milk room each morning(even when she wasn’t milking) and the last one to bed most nights. I could spend hours just snuggling into her and staring at the sky as the time passed us by.

She had a tough winter this year with the four feet of snow in December but I thought that we had turned a corner finally with the advent of Spring earlier this week.

This afternoon my sister went to do chores, and came running for me saying that Jesse had gone down. Instantly I was out the door and in the goat pen, but the moment I saw her I knew that I would be saying goodbye.

Jesse had suffered a stroke and lost the ability to control the left side of her body, and was having mini-seizures on her right side. I quickly tried to get her to a sternally reccumbent position, but found she couldn’t so covered her in my sweatshirt and sat on the ground with her waiting for the reinforcements to hurry up and eat help move her.

Called the vet and explained what happened he said he’d be out as soon as he could and to keep her comfortable. We moved her to the barn where I settled in to say my goodbyes and wait with her.

Thankfully when he arrived he quickly confirmed my diagnoses and prognosis, and agreed that I had made the right choice.

I know you will be waiting for me my dear friend, someday at the Rainbow Bridge. Until then, enjoy the pastures.

So many posts I could be writing but instead I’ll write this one…

I love my British friends.

See they know what I like and they send me wonderful care packages. I love getting mail, but i love it even more when that mail is either laugh out loud funny or filled with chocolate and other goodies.

My first British care package arrived sometime late last year. It had a short funny story that one of my awesome friends Barcardi wrote for me. I’ve carried that thing to many an event where I knew I might need cheering up and it has helped to keep a smile on my face.

Then at Christmas she sent me another lovely care package filled with chocolate and presents for the wee one. Not just any chocolate mind you, but the GOOD British Cadbury’s (and yes there is a difference from American Cadburys).  I’m a sucker for chocolate.

Throw in an adorable bear for the wee one and I’m a goner.

The end of last month another friend Mirth sent me a care package chock full of Wagon Wheels:

1-26-09 010.1

Which are similar to the American Moon Pie but 100 million times tastier. She also sent me a LOL picture, but I am too stingy to share it(because frankly it’s a personal running joke, and would take far too long to explain). Lets just say it is totally fun and I grin every time I look at it.

Same day the WW’s and the LOL picture arrived I also found a new little friend in the mail:

1-26-09 001.1

That is a pewter squirrel pin that my good friend Sam sent me.

So imagine my surprise the other day when I went to the mailbox and found from Barcardi an envelope chock full of English Cadbury goodness. I’ve now hidden it away in hopes that this time it lasts me more than 2 days. Though with a night like tonight that is doubtful.

What she was looking at out the window:

So today was Kenzie's MRI. *exhales giant sigh of relief* So glad THAT is over! I knew going into it that it was going to be hard, but I had no idea HOW hard it would be.

See we arrived early(which is fine) and of course I'd forgotten to charge the portable DVD player that I packed so we were stuck watching some random irritating crud on the waiting room TV(or she was while I talked to a wonderful lady from Alaska). Finally 10 minutes after we were supposed to arrive, they whisked us off to the back to prep her, and let me 'settle in' (ha!). We had a wonderful nurse's assistant who was just a joy, and a great nurse too(actually the same one who put her to sleep last time we were in!) so we were very very lucky.

The poor wee thing did something she has NEVER ever done at the hospital before she broke out in a full on scream fit. I felt horrible because normally the nurses RAVE about how well behaved and quiet she is. Thankfully once we were in our torture cell sedation room, she calmed down as there was a very engaging playground below our window. She had to wear the embarassing gown, that somehow actually covered her bum!

We hung out snapped some pictures on my cell phone than the Anesthesiologist came in to put her to sleep. Let me say she did a wonderful job though my nerves at the time might not of said so. We were escorted from our room to the prep area for the MRI, where she'd set up the mask and almost everything we'd need. Poor Kenzie, though was very dead set on NOT being there. She kept pointing at the nurses, waving and saying 'Bye bye', while clinging furiously to me. So one of the assistants had me sit down in an office chair while they shoved gently placed the mask onto her face. Kenzie promptly held her breath aside from muttering 'Bye bye' repeatedly. That is when the scariest thing I have ever heard come out of a nurse was said "Oh by the way mom, don't be freaked out when her eyes roll back in her head, and it drops back" a moment later I got to see what they meant as we laid her out on the table. *shudders*

It was at that point I was kicked out dismissed to go 'grab a bite to eat'. I went and grabbed a quick salad, and came back to the room where I sat writing(strangely my muse decided THEN would be a good time to show up) and waiting.

Not long after, they brought her back, still asleep and went off leaving her attached to the monitor while they went to knock out sedate another child. Of course as soon as they were part way through that her alarms had to start going off, drawing in an NA, who of course had to wake her up *le sigh* and send us on our way. Literally I think we were there maybe 10 minutes after she woke up till we left and were on the road. *shakes head* So now we just wait until the 22nd to get the results.

Oh, on another note L is having a BOY.

100 Things- The Final Edition

So today my 100 things comes to an end(stop applauding, you know you liked it!). In the past 9 editions I have covered many many topics: Entertainment, Parties, Travel, Countries *waves* Hi Europe!, Food, Random stuff, Crushes, Jobs, and ME!

So since I am at a loss for a topic I can do 10 things over its going to be again Random day!

10 Random Things:

1) I have recently discovered a few different kinds of Jell-O shots. My favorite recipe is for the Caffeinated Jell-O shots. Please share your favorite Jell-O shot recipe!

2) Apparently my muse works really hard when it wants to. Not always on the 'correct' project. For instance I am supposed to be writing a Squirrel Fic. My muse would much rather play with Photoshop, and make Profiles, and wall papers.

3) My sciatic nerve has been acting up again. It has been almost 3 years since my last attack of sciatic. I have no idea why this is happening NOW or what caused this bout. I know what started it though.

4) In a search through my boxes of crap stuff, I recently found my high school diploma.

5) I am a pack rat. I have stuff that I don't remember acquiring. Anyone need some Beta Gravel?

6) The only kind of ice cream I will ever eat again is Tillamook Ice Cream. It is like heaven in a quart.

7) I have a 4 inch scar on my upper right arm. It is NOT from some horrid accident, so stop saying that! It is from a cat, shut up, I know that is a crappy story but its the truth.

8) When writing stories, and especially poetry, I MUST write them on paper before I put them on the laptop. I will edit the crap out of them on the laptop, then they get filed away into 'the book' where I keep all my poetry.

9) I have 3 "Rodeo style" belt buckles. I only know where 1 of them currently is. I worked my butt off for those things.

10) There is no way that my sister and I shared the same uterus, even if we were born 7 years apart. I am too much a geeky-tomboy, and she too much a preppy-athletic-popular-girly girl to have shared the same growing environment.

So with that concludes our visit into the 100 things list. Tune in tomorrow for the Gay Feline Chronicles.

Friends, and Feelings

This post is about a friend. A wonderful great friend whom I cherish more every day. We all have them.

I will spare you the long version of how we met, suffice to say it was a long time ago. Then we 're-met' about a year, year and a half ago. See when I was in a toxic relationship, the other half was quite jealous of her and my other friends and forced me to cut off contact.

Then quite by accident, I reconnected with her through one of our mutual friends. To me at least when I re-found her it was like a flipping of a switch in my brain.

Ever had the feeling that you were missing something but didn't know what?  I did, until I re-found her.

Now its like my brain is mostly whole again. This is one person that I feel totally completely and utterly at ease with. I will, and can talk to her about anything, and everything, as well as nothing all at the same time.

In the last week she has made me realize how truly lucky I am to have a friend like her. A friend that I can laugh with, cry with and cry because of. A friend that makes me not afraid to actually have feelings and share them(though I still may not LIKE the feelings but that's a different blog post).

So thanks Tiff, your the best friend a girl could ever ask for.

Let the re-construction commence

So I arrived home to find that Kenzie was upstairs playing in her room. Quietly. Now as all moms know quiet equals Trouble.

This time was no different.

I went upstairs to find this:

5-2-08 009

Looks okay at first glance right? (ignore the crib without a mattress)

Well look again, try the right wall(the one with the door)

Notice anything missing?

5-2-08 010

That's right, the toddler pulled off all FIFTEEN FEET of the wall border.

Now then onto a very very important topic. I was given a very special award by one of my favorite bloggers (thanks, LSHM). Now I have the distinction of passing on this goregous award to a very favorite blogger of mine.

I award the Tiara Award to Lotus.

Tiara award

Nobody deserves this more than you my dear, Lotus!

And the award goes to

So since I don't have any awards for my blog currently and didn't feel like going and stealing one from somewhere, to award my new favorite blog, I figured I'd make one up. I have no clue how acceptable this is but I'm sure that they won't turn down a blog award(cause really who would)?

I'd like to introduce the Smokin' Hot Blog Award.

smokinhotblogaward

There is only one real 'rule' for this award. It should be given to a blogger who makes you laugh/snort/chuckle, on a regular basis.

Now without further ado, I'd like to hereby present my new award to

*Drum Roll*

Law Student Hot Mama

Are you reading her blog yet? No? Well why the heck not?

She is seriously funny and when she recently went on 'vacation' I missed her witty blog so much that I kept re-reading her feeds. Make sure you check out her T.I.T's  series she runs every Tuesday that is guaranteed to make you at least a little peeved about something.

Prom Memories

Tonight I was reminded just how long its been since I was in high school(really not THAT long but long enough). I was down picking up some stuff from the gas station when my favorite checker mentioned that last night was prom, so all the kids were hanging out trying to buy beer *rolls eyes*.

When I was a senior in high school, I actually strongly considered NOT going to prom(I only went to a total of 3 school dances- homecoming, Tolo, and Prom). That is until, all my friends basically told me that I HAD to go. So I agreed(seeing as I was a follower and all). I took my 'long time' boyfriend(my now ex), which was a big pain in the rear as we had to go through the whole 'permission' process involving him going back to his former high school and getting them to sign off and yada yada yada. Looking back I actually regret taking him to prom with me, as he was CONSTANTLY comparing it to his prom and how much mine 'sucked' in comparison.

Now don't get me wrong as far as it went my prom was pretty crappy. First off it was held at Qwest Field in one of their banquet halls(the meal portion) and also in the 'breezeway' overlooking the field that they just so happened to be holding a soccer game on. The meal was pretty bland and unmemorable, the entertainment shoddy, boring and slightly offensive, and the music? Lets just say the music SUCKED. I clearly remember everyone requesting 'good' music(a lot of country{don't knock us we're rural kids}) but instead the DJ's insisted upon playing rap, techno and other such garbage. They played 1 country song and when they did, it should have been CLEAR that was what we wanted as a line dance broke out(seriously a LINE fricking DANCE, at PROM). It was crazy. We ended up leaving early stopping at Dicks(my favorite Seattle eatery) on the way home and arriving back before 1 am(the prom didn't even end till midnight).

Just to complete this story I'd now like to share some of the horrid pictures from that evening/night. Please turn away now.

Friends

Pinky and the Brain, Sylvester and Tweety, Tom and Jerry, Roadrunner and Wylie Coyote, Bugs and Daffy. What do all these characters have in common?

They are friends through and through. Friends till the end. No matter how much they fight(and goodness knows they do) they are still pals of some sort.

I have a friend like that. Now I am starting to wonder if I have become too grown up for her. Too grown up, you ask with a perplexed look on your face, how is that possible? Well my dear wonderful, amazing friend and I when combined have the gross age of about 12. We laugh, and joke and generally act like ninnies(okay who says we do anyways?). Its a guaranteed good time when you put us together.

Like that time we went to Pullman:
Photobucket

Or the Giant Marshmellow incident. That was good times! (you would of had to be there)

I just hope our friendship isn't going to shimmy into nothingness, because I don't know if I could bear to say goodbye to this wonderful, awesome, amazing friend.

To say thank you to the wonderful wonderful KDVB1, and Wolfie who were also present, at the Con on Sunday with Whovian(W/T).

K, I OWE YOU SO BIG, thanks for getting Dylan's Siggy for me! I Hope ya'lls had a good time, though from what I hear I need not worry!

Sunday, March 9, 2008

Hmm. Okay, yeah.

So if you have been around here for any length of time you may have read about my secret life before. I am flat out, a HUGE Sci-Fi geek/nerd/fan. I will be the first to admit it. I'm still working on my goal. Though, I would now like to amend that goal.

I will go to a Con, that includes Kyle Schmid. After hearing W's con report from MegaCon, today I am seriously totally 150% jealous, of her! I'm seriously glad that I have friends who'll stand in line, just to get some actor's signature for me, all the way on the other side of the country.

W(T) I OWE YOU!

To go or not to go that tis the question

So as many of my longtime readers(are there any?) may know or suspect, I am a HUGE stargate fan. On april 3rd at the FUEL restaurant, in Vancouver there will be a large fan dinner, with a couple of the writers/producers there as special guests. So do you think I should go? or not?

Mother's little speech book

So today I realized that I really truely am turning into a MOTHER(you notice i dont say MY mother as she and i have a rocky relationship at best).

This evening I got a call from a friend we'll call Ali. Now normally Ali doesn't call me that often but she had called me earlier today returning one of my stalkerish phone calls(mind you we've known each other for 8 years so this is just a joke). Well we had a nice long converstation about nothing really in general yet everything at the same time(again this is just how we operate). Well later this evening I was sitting feeding munch the last of her dinner when my phone started buzzing at me. I looked down to find that Ali was calling me. I answered it to her in tears. I won't go into details as to what had upset her so but I will say that by the end of our conversation she had accused me of hanging out with her mother(who lives 4 states away). Apparently I told her the EXACT same things her mom did when she spoke to her on the phone only moments before calling me.

I mean I know that I have been a mother for almost two years but it always surprises me how many motherly instincts that I have since I had to create my own 'mothers' when I was growing up.
