Where has the week gone?

I don’t know about you but for me this week has just flown by.  Monday was pretty much a waste as I was still dead on my feet from Saturday and then today I was talking to my dad and he was asking about my plans for tomorrow night. When I told him I didn’t have any he kindly reminded me that it was the first Friday and that I’d mentioned we had our parenting group.  That made me realize that it was *gasp* Thursday and I didn’t even do ANYTHING productive this week.

I think that I decided that in April I will be going to Vancouver for a ‘me weekend’ and going to the Con up there even if no one really likes it because darn it, I deserve to have some fun.

Was hired today by my Uncle to do some warehouse work for him, and I now get to spend the next month and a half learning all about Fishing reels, rods, crab traps and assorted other sporting goods- ought to be a fun time.

Got CanadiTom some new voices and maps and am now(fruitlessly) trying to convince him that I really do live at my house. He seems to think that I have moved since I re-taught him my address this morning.  Though he now has some fun new voices(a new Canadian, and Darth Vader among them).

I’ve spent a lot of time lately playing with the camera and taking just a million shots so that I can improve my familiarity with it…

I'm still here....tired...but here

So with the holidays now over, and no goats yet expecting(so *not* my job this year thankfully) I now turn my attention to more important things.

Like CLE/CWS planning. In 25 short days I will be teaching not 1 but 2 full length classes and only have one set of curriculum fully finished. I am freaking out because I'm not sure what(or how) to teach the other class.

Since I returned from Burbank I have slept very little as I *hate* this time of year when it is dark more than light.

You can find my notes on Burbank HERE. I had a great time and now just need to figure out how to keep being able to go to these things.

We recently spent 12 days stranded by the snow. That was an exercise in patience and fun. The insane amounts of snow have stuck around though we have gotten down to about a one foot average across most of the yard, though the driveway is still lined by snow boulders from the kindly neighbors' CAT.

This Friday will mark the end of a very fun chapter in my life. Stargate Atlantis' 100th and final episode will air.  They have already green lit a movie but no word yet on when it will be out.

If your not a geek, you may want to turn away now

If your still here don't say I didn't warn you.

So today I got a very exciting package in the mail.

Stargate Atlantis Patches

Its my set of Atlantis Patches that I ordered for my Stargate Atlantis Convention in a little less than 2 weeks(13 days to be exact). I have an 'official' Atlantis Pegasus Patch, my US Flag patch, and the totally kicking Daedalus Flight crew patch.

Unfortunately 2 of the 3 are really technically gifts and wont be coming home with me from Burbank(the Pegasus and US flag) but until then I get to drool over and drag them around with me everywhere.

The bad news that came down the pipe

Yesterday I received some horrid news.

They(Sci Fi, and MGM) have decided that they are canceling Stargate Atlantis.

Now I realize that to most people this isn't 'horrible news' but to a fan it is. This show is in the prime of its life, and is being shut down just when its really getting its own feet under it.

They also announced this morning that they will be releasing a new Stargate series in 2009- Stargate Universe. At the moment I don't know much about it, so I can't really comment.

On a brighter note- I bought and paid for my plane ticket to Burbank in November. So I am officially going to the Creation Burbank SG Convention!

Let me just say....

SQUEEEE!

Okay, since I'm going to try to keep my blog spoiler free, I can't say a lot.

Though I will say that the new season(5) of Stargate Atlantis looks like it could have some potential to it.

Tonight's episode secured my place in my new super secret identity, and reminded me of my other one.

So, if you haven't yet check out Search and Rescue, the Stargate Atlantis Season 5 premiere!

My new TV husband

Okay so we all do it. We plop down in front of the TV on any given night and just let our brains wander off unsupervised to wherever it is that they go.  I am no exception to this rule.

In the past I have admitted to being a SCI FI junky. I have no problem admitting this. I love me some SCI FI.

Now you may remember way back when I started this blog I wrote about my first SGA love. His name was Peter Grodin.

Craig_veroni

I thought he was HAWT. The only issue was that when I came into the fandom(near the end of season 3) his character had been dead for a long time.

This wasn't an issue nor did it deter me from falling madly head over heels nuts about his character(I think that may have been the accent talking). I could NOT get enough of 'Grodin' wherever I could find him.

That was until recently. I was sitting re-watching one of my SGA disc's and happened to catch a cute looking character in the 'backround' of the episode.

ks-sgaset1

That is Kavan Smith he plays Major Evan Lorne. *shivers* and I think he's HAWT. Yes I am admitting it. I don't care what the world thinks. Maj. Lorne, is my brand new TV husband. If he were 'real' I'd snatch him up and cart him off and reproduce with him. But alas he isn't so I will have to survive off adolescent daydreams.

Oh and I think the DELL might get a wee bit jealous.

In which I admit I have a problem

First off welcome to this meeting of TV addicts anonymous I am leading this group, and there fore will start us off. I have decided that after last night, I may need to come clean about my addiction. That's right I am addicted to something(I know it comes a a shock right? *cues crickets*)

Hi, my name is, wait this is my blog so therefore you probably already know who I am because you are reading MY blog. Pfft! I'm not going to introduce myself to y'all!

I am addicted to Blood Ties. Blood Ties is a fun, witty, adventure-filled show, mixed with just the right amount of romance, and intrigue. The TV show is based off the Vicki Nelson series of books written by Tanya Huff. I actually discovered this show at the end of its first 'season'(do not even start me on THAT topic) last spring(2007). I saw one episode, Norman and was instantly hooked. I then spent the summer tracking down 4 of the 5 books, and the anthology of short stories, and also all of the episodes previously available on iTunes.

The books were written in such a serious yet fun tone, that they transfer beautifully to the small screen. The three main characters, just gel together so much that at times I almost felt as if I was intruding into moments not meant to be seen by the average person. The series was adapted from the books with several episodes being based on stories that happened in the first four books(I do not foresee them touching the fifth and final book on the series EVER).

The series is set in Toronto, and follows a former cop turned PI, Vicki Nelson, as she enters the world of all things paranormal and strange. She teams up with the quirky 480 year old, Henry Fitzroy, son of the infamous Henry the VIII. Vicki drags her unwitting former partner, and ex-lover, Mike Celluci, along for the ride as well. Toss in the amazing supporting cast, and you have the basis for a wonderful, strong cast of characters that constantly amaze and surprise you.

Blood Ties' dialogue is an amazing masterpiece in and of itself. It is filled with fun, witty repartee that always hits the mark just where it should. I have yet to find an episode without at least one giggle worthy line in it. I am always amazed at how even the serious stuff comes across so well because of the wonderful talent on the show. It is because of the wonderful talent that the main love 'triangle' comes across so poignantly and skillfully to the viewer. There is a lot of nuance and tease used to convey messages and if you are not paying close attention you will most defiantly miss something. I know that each time I watch an episode, I always find something that I missed before.

Unfortunately for me and my addiction, it has now been just about five months since the last episode of 'season two' aired online. I am hoping against all odds that some network, somewhere finds it in their hearts to pick up the series and continue it, but I am starting to focus on other things- such as when the DVDs may someday be released in the US. Though I remain ever hopeful, and vigilant for word, any word that we have a go for a true second season. Now if you excuse me I have to go find my copy of Blood Lines that I am rereading for the 10Th time.

To go or not to go that tis the question

So as many of my longtime readers(are there any?) may know or suspect, I am a HUGE stargate fan. On april 3rd at the FUEL restaurant, in Vancouver there will be a large fan dinner, with a couple of the writers/producers there as special guests. So do you think I should go? or not?

A blog about my secret life

Now as many of my readers may or may not know, I am somewhat of a TV nut. I will watch anything that catches my eye(or at least DVR it in hopes of watching it later) and if I find an actor/actress that I particularly like I have the tendency to track down their whole body of work. I go through 'phases' of who I like, what I like and what I follow closely.

Recently I discovered another side to my persona, it is that of a Sci Fi Geek/Nerd. I'm quite proud of this side of myself as I have discovered it has made me much more comfortable in my own skin and allowed me to relax into relationships that I'd never of imagined before. This side of my persona has also led me to the discovery of some wonderful preformers that I may never of even found otherwise. I am constantly amazed by the depth and breadth of some of these people's skills.

Take David Hewlett for example- he is not only an amazing actor on Stargate Atlantis, but he has also written, directed, and starred in his own independent production- A Dog's Breakfast. Everything I have seen him in has amazed me. I am still tracking down pieces of his work(Cube, Nothing) but have been very impressed by everything I have thus far seen. He has done work in tv and movies both. I actually discovered this year that one of my favorite christmas movies that I have partook in for years he was in- On the 2nd Day of Christmas. I find that even when he is playing a 'bad guy' it is nearly impossible not to be blown away by his talent.

Another wonderful actor I have absolutely fallen head over heels for is Dylan Neal, I 'met' him years ago and never noticed him. I have just begun tracking down his work, but have been absolutely blown away by his preformance in Blood Ties. He recently guest starred in Stargate Atlantis, and I was so shocked(I try to avoid spoilers like the plague) that I think I got a wee bit of whiplash when I heard his voice. I could go on, and on about my crush on him but I'll spare you for the moment.

Also from Blood Ties I found Kyle Schmid who has also suddenly seemed to crop up in a lot of movies and shows that I watch. Maybe its just because I am more tuned to notice him now, I'm not sure the reason but I have come to be able to identify him even from behind. He has been in a lot of 'Kids' movies- The Pacifier, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, The Cheetah Girls, Sex and the Single Mom, the list goes on forever.

Though I must say that my absolute favorite 'new' actress is hands down Christina Cox. She is an actress that truely amazes me. I am as I have freely admitted a giant tomboy. Christina, is an actress who through her preformances can actually get little old me to show some emotion on the surface. I sat watching her latest movie Making Mr. Right, I found myself laughing, than smiling, even to the point of tears towards the end. I can't even begin to count how many times in watching her on Blood Ties her preformance elicited such a strong emotional pull that I actually found myself wiping away tears, be they from laughter, or just the belivability of the pain she portrayed. Even as I sit here typing this entry out just thinking about some of the stuff I have seen her in is making me smile.

So hats off to all of you wonderful actors, and actresses who go out in the limelight to portray our favorite charaters.

Rodney Got Run Over By a Wraith Dart

Rodney got run over by a wraith dart

Walking home from the planet Christmas eve

You can say there's no such thing as wraith

but as for Weir and Sheppard they believe

he'd been drinkin' too much egg nog

and they begged him not to go,

but he'd left his tablet

so he stumbled out towards the gate

when they found him Christmas mornin'

at the scene of the aggression

there were stun marks on his forehead

and incriminatin' claw marks on his chest

Rodney got run over by a wraith dart

Walking home from the planet Christmas eve

You can say there's no such thing as wraith

but as for Weir and Sheppard they believe

Now we're all so proud of Sheppard

he's been takin' this so well

see him in there watchin' football

drinkin' beer and playin' golf with major Lorne

its just not Christmas without Rodney

all the crew's dressed in black

And we can't help but wonder:

Should we open up his gifts or send 'em back?

Rodney got run over by a wraith dart

Walking home from the planet Christmas eve

You can say there's no such thing as wraith

but as for Weir and Sheppard they believe

Now the fowl is on the tables

and the pudding made of bacot

the blue and silver candles

that would have matched the cover on his jacket

I've warned all my friends and enemies

better watch over all your consoles

they never should give license

to a beast that sucks your soul.

Rodney got run over by a wraith dart

Walking home from the planet Christmas eve

You can say there's no such thing as wraith

but as for Weir and Sheppard they believe

My first SGA love

For those of you who know me you know that I am a HUGE fan of SGA(stargate atlantis) and you also know that my favorite s2/3 and beyond character is Dr. Rodney Mckay(though I let Tiffany 'own' him most of the time). However my first love on SGA wasn't John, or Radek, or Ford, or Carson, or Rodney. NO WAY! My first(and continuing best) love on SGA was Craig Veroni as Dr. Peter Grodin. He is so freaking adorable in that role I absolutely love him! He may have been in only 10 episodes but it was enough to secure him a place in my heart that is special. I loved Rising part 1 and 2, Hide and Seek, 38 minutes, Childhood's end, Underground, Hot Zone, Sanctuary, and Before I Sleep, they were great wonderful sweet episodes. He also appeared in the SG-1 episode "Grace" as the Weapons Officer(to the right of the captain in the front of the ship). He also appeared in "The Seige part 1" but as much screen time as he got in that episode I do not like it because of how it ends. If you don't know in the end Peter ends up dying which was enough to make my fangirl heart very very sad. It has suddenly become an issue with me because of the fact that a lot of different people have been making the comment that "Nobody really dies in Sci Fi" I mean come on can anybody say DOUBLE STANDARD? Carson can come back what then that really opens a lot of doors that probably shouldn't be opened. I mean dont get me wrong, I was saddened by Carson's death, but when he comes back it will mean that it was just a big blip on the radar.

Elizabeth Weir before she was herself

So I am sitting here watching Stargate SG-1 "The Lost City" episode because I know that is when we are introduced to Elizabeth, so I was quite excited by this fact since she is my favorite female character on SGA. So I sit down to watch and VOILA! it is NOT! Elizabeth which is in the same boat as Crazy! Ford, or Bug! Sheppard or the list goes on. So who was this Elizabeth? I don't really know I don't even know her name does anyone know her name? I mean McKay was McKay from the start why not elizabeth i mean it changed when? from the scary blonde ditz to the smart, funny, sweet, caring, well rounded brunette with plenty of new angles. I mean its this this BLONDE in "The Lost City 1 & 2" then it becomes Torri in "The New Order 1 & 2" I like Torri soooo much better than Jessica Steen.

I mean dont get me wrong JS is great in her OTHER role on NCIS as Special Agent Paula Cassidy. She is much better suited for that than she is for Elizabeth.
