FTF, Why I am doing it.

Okay so recently in my Fight The Frump posts, many of you have been leaving wonderful, helpful comments on other things to try.

Now I am going to bore you with the whole reason I (a self proclaimed frumpy goat farmer) decided to get in on Fight The Frump.

* My pre-FtF routine(PFR) included: Showering, and air drying hair. That was it. No cute shoes, no adorable hair cuts, no crazy little black dresses.

* The only piece of 'hair' equipment I own(besides a brush) is a Hair dryer. Oh and a 20 year old curling iron that doesn't work.

* That's right I do NOT own ANY of the following:

> Flat Iron

> Working Curling Iron

> Crimping Iron

> 7 zillion hair products

* I was starting to feel like the only place I could hang out was a truck stop. PFR I was dressing in Flannel shirts, and plaid, and coveralls, seriously NOT even anywhere remotely frump free.

* My big new years resolution was to feel better about my body no matter how it looked. It's my body, it does amazing things for me, yet I hated it.

* I raise goats, meaning I spend 98% of my time covered in mud and other assorted 'natural' products.

* In the near future I plan on going back to school(most likely this fall), so I'd like to be able to dress 'normally' not like a farmer, nor a mother.

* I wanted to step outside my 'comfort zone' and see what it was like to be a girl, not just a down and dirty farm girl(not that I have a problem being down and dirty).

Help pick my hair!

Okay so on Friday morning I am going in and getting a hair cut. The only problem is that I can't decide what to do with it.

I am going to be going from my Blah! shoulder length-ish hair to something about chin length.

This is my current hair:

4-27-08 008

4-27-08 011

I have narrowed it down to a few, couple, handful of finalists.

Choice #1:

4-27-08 001

Choice #2:

4-27-08 004

Choice #3:

4-27-08 006

Choice #4:

Choice #5:

Choice #6:

Choice #7:

These are all pretty big departures from what I have currently, but I think that I'd be pretty happy with any of them. You have until Thursday at Midnight(12pm) PST to get your votes in!

Fight the Frump- Nails, Nails, Nails

Time again to fight the frump. This week I would like to share a new favorite product I found.

Now as we all know, I am NOT a 'girly girl'. I am a down and dirty, covered in mud, Farm girl. I live in a barn part time, and am usually more at home in a pair of knee boots, than High heels. Plaid over Prada you might say.

That is until I discovered THIS product line.

More specifically Nic's Sticks. The easy to use fast and quick nail polish. I happened to stumble upon it shopping at MalWart*.

I picked up a Nic's Stick in "Red Eye to New York". Now we might remember that back at the beginning of April, I actually got a mani/pedi. That was the first time in about 2 years(I got one the day before I went into labor since then? Nothing)

On the website they have a really neat tool:

Nails

This neat little thing lets you find you're skin color, and than try out different shades of polish. Its really nice!

The Sticks, promise to be quick drying, and fast applying, which it really lived up to.

I think I'll be picking up some more of these little inexpensive cuties. Seriously I got this for under $2. That is cheaper than a soda!

Now go check out the other frump fighters at fussypant's blog.

I will snap pictures later and post them so you can see my prettified nails.

My knee: an update

So as all of you know when I was at the Fuel dinner I did this to my knee:

4-4-08 002 Right Knee

4-4-08 006 Left Knee

The right knee looked pretty similar to the above picture for about a week and a half before it finally scabbed over on the cut part. The abrasion was mostly healed with in days. The left knee was actually pretty okay other than the small cut to it.

In the last 3 days I have spent 12 hours 'heat wrapping' my right knee in an effort to encourage it to heal and get better. It has now progressed to this:

4-13-08 004 Right Knee

4-13-08 001 Left Knee

As I am sure you can see the abrasion is nice and shiny red(and itches like MAD) whereas the cut part is still pretty icky looking. I actually have decided that if it isn't any better by Thursday I may see about getting an appointment to get it checked out- just in case.

In the middle of it is a deep gash like thing, that when it comes into contact with anything even remotely solid. I can barely wear pants without it killing me and have therefore been living in my almost holy yoga pants. *sighs* I think I need to go read my own advice.

Fight the Frump: In which I embrace it.

As many of you know last week on Wednesday afternoon the kids arrived. That means that on top of having a rambunctious toddler, I also have a set of triplets.

4-2-08 028

Also since it is <s>hell week</s> spring break, we are in the process of switching rooms around. The toddler is moving into the 'kids' room, and the teenager is moving into the toddlers old room. So we have been cleaning, and painting on top of all the other farm work. Add in having a set of newborn triplets running, bounding, and leaping around the living room, and you have a recipe for frump.

4-8-08 001

Now while I know that most of ya'll would excuse me being slightly Frumpy I must admit to you that I have spent most of the last week(except last Thursday) in a tank top, and some kind of sweat/yoga pants.

It also probably doesn't help that my knee still looks like this:

4-4-08 002

I can't bend it, I can't straighten it, I can barely put weight on it. It S U C K S. So please excuse me this week while I embrace the frump.

Now go visit the other Friends of Fussy and find some real tips.

Fight the Frump: The Final Result

Its friday which means its time to Fight the Frump with Fussy!

Today's fight the frump will give ya'll a look at the final result of all my de-frump-ifying that I have done in recent weeks.

Photobucket

That is me(sorry I didn't snap a full length shot!) last night at the big fancy dinner I went to in Vancouver. On either side of me are Martin Gero, and Joe Mallozzi.

The reason I didn't snap a full length shot(to show off the shoes, and all the 'lower' work I did) is that about halfway through dinner I had to go out and get something from my car and was walking back down the hill in heels, and I tripped, fell and faceplanted on the hard sidewalk and ended up ripping my knee to pieces.

The quarry has been located (FtF follow up)

So today I went out looking for that Little Black Dress, I mentioned yesterday. I was fortunate enough to find not 1 but TWO little black dresses that fit my criteria. Now I only have pics of me wearing one(the one I'll probably wear to the dinner) but I'd like to share them with you now.

Dress #1: Knee Length, with shoulder straps, and V-neck, with cami underneath. Stretch.

Full shot

Behind the front V is a 'cami' that shows when being worn.

Dress #2: Knee length, mid-length sleeves, V neck, cowled middle, semi-stretch.

On me. This is the one I'll probably wear.

So....What do you think?

Fight The Frump: The Little Black dress hunt

Photobucket

Its time again for FIGHT THE FRUMP with Fussy! Now if you have been reading my FTF's for a while you may remember that a few weeks ago I revealed the need for me to wear heels. Well that day is fast approaching and as I was flipping through my closet I came to the realization of 2 things:

1) I have NOTHING to wear. Most of my closet it filled with T-shirts(that are too small), and jeans. I haven't worn a dress since I went to prom 3 YEARS ago. Not even a skirt has graced my hips since then.

2) I have NO shoes to wear. Sneakers just are NOT heels. That one will have to wait though.

This weeks FtF is about the search for the perfect dress. It will be commencing tommorow and extend into Sunday. Hopefully I will find my quarry.

I am looking for a dress similar to this:

Photobucket

I'd like to thank the LOVELY, Christina Cox for modeling it ;) I own no rights to her, or the show on which she wore it(BLOOD TIES).

I LOVE this dress because it is right about knee length, not too long, not too short. It has a nice front to it(though the V is a bit drastic for my mommy rack, possibly) and the back is nice and conservatively high, not showing off 'too much' skin. I think if I can just locate this elusive prey, that I will be all set.

Any other suggestions are very welcome just remember- I'm shopping on a limited time frame I MUST have a dress by Wednesday night for the party Thursday.

I have FOUND the dress see it HERE!

Fight the Frump while living in a Barn

Photobucket

As many of you know from past Frump Fighters Posts(and my blog's title) I am a goat farmer. Which means that Spring is my busy season. Meaning I never really am NOT 'frumpy'(in the regular sense of the word). So in celebration of the fast approaching birth of my 37th+ kids, I thought I'd do a post on how I Fight the Fump while living in my barn.

This is my barn:
Photobucket

Inside it looks like this:
Photobucket

I will be spending the next few weeks here:
Photobucket
Though by then it will be clean, and shiny white like every year.

And possibly sleeping here:
Photobucket

So as you can see I won't have much room, or creature comforts out there. Plus it is DANGED cold at night.

To combat looking frumpy I have rules that I follow before going to town. There are a few things though that keep me from looking extra frumpy around here.

First one must skew their definition of 'Frumpy' during the spring kidding season. You are NOT always going to look you're best(sorry Fussy!) but at least its for a good cause. I feel that during the spring the most important key to not looking like a frump-miester, is to ALWAYS have clean clothes on when you start the day. Now if by 9pm you've delivered 5 kids, its OKAY to be a little dirty and messy, births are NOT clean.

I also try to institute the '2 showers a day' rule. That means I get up I take a shower I go through the day get grimy and gross, take another one and go to bed. The ONLY acceptable time I will not follow this rule is those nights I am up until 2 am delivering kids. Then it is Okay to skip the night shower, 'cause I'm exhausted and going to be getting up 4 times that night.

As long as I follow the aforementioned rules, and these couple of addendums, I don't feel quite so frumpy from March through May. In the end is it worth it you ask?

DANG RIGHT IT IS!

See what you get in the end:
Photobucket
Can you find all 3 in the picture?

Fight the Frump- Getting to the Sole of The Issue

Today is Fight the Frump with Fussy! Check out all the other participants over at Fussy's WONDERFUL blog.

In today's issue of FtF, I will be dealing with a particular subject that can be touchy. Feet!

Now, I live in the Northwest, so I don't have a very long 'sandal season' in which to show off my feet in cute little sandals. *sighs wistfully* Plus I live on a farm, and don't wear sandals anyways(except on the way to our hot tub).

I hide my feet 90% of the year in horrid looking farm shoes, or rubber boots. I have an occasion coming up in a few weeks that will require me to dress up and wear HEELS *gasps*. I happened to sit down and pull off my socks the other day and realized there was no way they would let me in if my feet looked the way they did. I had a common condition known as WINTER FOOT. You know, when you're feet become dry, and cracked and look like the Gobi Desert? Yeah, my feet didn't even look that good. I have some 'before' pic's I'll dig out later and post if you want(i wouldn't want to scar you).

So I resolved to spend a week pampering my feet every night before bed. So from last Friday, to today I have spent approximately 30 minutes each night pampering my feet!

I soaked them in Epsom salt water, than I used the Olay warming foot scrub(seriously I LOVE that stuff), which was followed by a wrap in the booties(i'll grab a pic later i can't find one right now) for 10-15 minutes. After the booties came off, I would use some Burt's Bee's Shea butter lotion and my trusty foot scrubber to buff the caslouses away. When I was done with that I'd slip my tootsies into a clean pair of socks and slip off to bed.

I am really amazed how much more presentable my feet look now compared to last week. There are some things that will have to be dealt with 'professionally' but I haven't had time to use my spa gift certificate for my mani and pedi.

Fight the Frump, Hair coloring adventures!

Photobucket

So it is time once again to FIGHT THE FRUMP, WITH FUSSY!

This week, I am tackling my hair. Since I have been in Alpha mommy mode(i switch to it from 3/1- 3/10) I decided that I wanted to go back to my 'natural' hair color. Once upon a time, I was a blonde. I got tired of the blonde jokes and nobody taking me seriously so I started dying my hair, Brunette.

Well I have decided that it is HIGH time that I go back to my (blonde) Roots, so to speak. So in today's post we will have a photo journey through my hair coloring battle. (this may continue for a while).

As I am sure you all remember I have a 'dark' hair color now, its kind of auburnish red. (Please, please, please forget my scary eye!)

Photobucket

Photobucket

I am Dying it with this color:
Photobucket
It's about as far from my hair as you can get....

I colored it and left it for 30 minutes instead of the recomended 25 and washed it out, I think I should of left it longer.

Right now it is still wet but it looks like this:

Photobucket

Photobucket

Hmmm.....I have a feeling I won't be quite getting the look I want. Any tips I should have? I'll update more when its dry! I have a feeling that I may need to suck it up, call in the professional's on this one.

Oh, and don't forget to visit all the other Frump Fighter's over at Mrs. Fussypant's Blog!

Fight The Frump while feeling like you're dying

Photobucket

Since it is Friday it is time to FIGHT THE FRUMP! with Mrs. Fussypants! Hopefully Mrs. Fussypants is feeling better. I feel for you girl Mr. Flu Enza SUCKS!

So as I am sure you know by now, I have basically felt like dying all week. You can read about it here, here, here, and here. So today when I had to go out in public about the only thing I had the energy for was leaving. I had been working outside some until my prednisone, which supposedly makes people 'hyper', made me pass out on the couch in the living room. Since I was just running to the feed store I went ahead and made myself look semi-nice.

Before I got 'De-frumped' I looked like this:

Photobucket
Notice the icky stringy hair?
and the lack luster eyes?
and the grumpy 'just kill me now' look?

With just a few quick quirks I looked like this:

Photobucket
Look at that hair! It has volume!

Photobucket
Those eyes just pop don't they?
and look! there's color to my boring dull lips!

Photobucket
See? doesn't look to bad considering this is 5 minutes
AND just for the feed store(seriously I normally go in barn clothes)

Just a quick reminder- the give-away deadline for the Simply Salads book ends tommorow March 1st. So go visit last weeks Frump Fighters' post to get entered to win! And don't forget to visit all the other Frump Fighters!
